THE 4-STEP WRITING PROCESS

STEP 1: BRAINSTORM + PLAN OF ACTION

Wonder no more!

• DISCOVERY: Through a series of WRITING PROMPTS and key questions aimed at revving your writing engine, we will explore and discover the topic, thesis, or claim that will suit your goal.  

• PLANNING: If you plan to succeed, YOU NEED TO PLAN. Let’s talk about the writing process and the arc your essay needs to achieve.

• TIME-TABLE: We will create a series of DEADLINES to move you through drafts and revisions. 

  • I work on GOOGLE DRIVE so that your work is saved in a cloud. This format allows us to edit the document together. I can meet in person (local in NYC area) or over zoom. 

STEP 2: DRAFT ONE

Draft one will be MESSY! Let it flow. Pour your ideas out. Speak your truth. I will help MOTIVATE you to complete your first draft. This will provide us with the FOUNDATION for growth.

• CRITIQUE: By responding to a series of questions, comments, and suggestions, you will revise draft one to produce draft two.

• COLLABORATE: This draft may circulate between you and I a few times before reaching maximum potential.  

STEP 3: DRAFT TWO

REFINE: Make your POSITION clear. ​

• Your essay will open with a HOOK and CLOSE with something PROFOUND.

• The story will resonate with readers as it will be rooted in REAL LIFE EXAMPLES that travel through a NARRATIVE ARC.

• Your claims will be well RESEARCHED. Your argument will come FULL CIRCLE.

STEP 4: PROOFREADING & EDITING

PERFECT: The POWER OF YOUR WORDS will RING. I will read over your work to:

• ensure there IS NOT a single spelling or grammatical mistake.

• make sure you've achieved your objectives and that your message flows in a clear consistent way.
